Health benefits of baking soda
Baking soda is one of those household items that has traditionally been considered a necessity
It can be used for baking, cleaning and also to absorb unpleasant odors. Basically, just 100 percent sodium bicarbonate (which is why it's also called "bicarbonate").
Carbon dioxide gas is released when mixed with acid
This causes the bread dough to rise. The pH of baking soda helps eliminate unpleasant odors
And because it's non-toxic, it makes a great cleaning agent as well. But only since the 1930s has baking soda been considered a proven medical toothpaste
Drain cleaner
People often avoid cleaning drains because the only way they know how is to use strong, potentially dangerous products. A good, safe and effective method is to sprinkle baking soda down the drain, then add apple cider vinegar, let it boil for 15 minutes, then wash it with hot water.
Natural deodorant
Critics say you can make a paste and apply it, powder on dry baking soda, or even spray the water mixture under your arms to avoid smelly armpits. It's certainly one way to avoid the nasty additives that are an integral part of commercial deodorants and antiperspirants found in drugstores and supermarket shelves today.
Insect bites and rashes
Baking soda is a magical ingredient to help relieve the inevitable itching. What it does is neutralize irritants and toxins on the surface of the skin often better than expensive medications
All you have to do is wash the affected skin area and then apply a fairly thin paste made by mixing baking soda with a little water. Leave it for a few hours before rinsing it off with clean water.
Heartburn and indigestion
Baking soda is a really good option when it comes to relieving heartburn, indigestion, and severe ulcer pain. While this is not recommended as chronic treatment, a safe dose would be half a teaspoon dissolved in half a cup of water
You can take it (or give it to someone with these symptoms) every two hours, provided that no more than seven doses are given in a 24-hour period.
If the person who took it is over 60 years old, the maximum period for this period is three teaspoons
Foot bath and body soak
Baking soda has an amazing effect when you soak your feet in the sink or use it in the bathtub for a spa-like body soak
If your feet are painful, add three heaping tablespoons to a basin of warm water. Swish your mouth with it until all the baking soda dissolves, then soak your feet in it
If you're going to do a full-body dip, try adding a little apple juice for an extra effect
Peeled
If you have rough, dry skin on your heels or other parts of your feet, once it's cooked, use the water/baking soda paste to scrub your feet.
You can make a simple but safe paste that you can use to treat your face and body
Just don't add more than three parts baking soda to one part water or else it may be a little harsh on the skin, especially cuticles
Hand and face cleanser
A mild paste of three parts baking soda mixed with one part water makes an amazing hand sanitizer and cleaner that you can use to clean dirt and neutralize unpleasant odors from oil and grease to garlic and onions.
Rub a little baking soda on my wet hands, scrub and then rinse with clean water. Alternatively, you can make a paste and add a little coconut oil to nourish your skin
Sunburn treatment
Adding half a cup of baking soda to incredibly lukewarm water in the sink is one of the best home remedies for relief.
When you get out of the shower, do not use a towel, but rather let the air dry your damaged skin. The baking soda will keep the water on the skin and continue to soothe it, helping to prevent blistering. You can also mix baking soda with water and use it in cold compresses applied directly to small areas of sunburned skin.
Removal of splinter
All you have to do is add a heaping tablespoon of baking soda to a cup of lukewarm water (so it dissolves easily) and soak the area where the splinter is two or three times a day.
If the splinter is on your finger, you can put your finger in water; If it's in a hard-to-reach area, soak a cotton cloth and use it to apply baking soda liberally
Generally, the splinters will come out of the skin after only a couple of days, although you can use tweezers for those who are more stubborn.
toothpaste
Some toothpaste products contain baking soda because it has been shown to be a mildly abrasive formula that effectively removes plaque, helps clean and polish teeth, and even deodorizes the mouth. Baking soda has also been found to have an antibacterial effect that kills harmful Streptococcus mutans bacteria that contribute to tooth decay.
You can make an effective tooth and gum paste by mixing and blending six parts baking soda with one part natural sea salt. To use, just lick the tip of your finger, dip in the mixture and rub on your gums and teeth. After 15 minutes rinse well with fresh water. Not everyone agrees. Some believe it can damage tooth enamel and kill beneficial bacteria
Athletic performance
Commonly known as doping soda, long-distance runners have been known to take baking soda capsules before races to improve their performance.
It has also been shown to improve swimmers' speed
Perhaps not completely legal, and perhaps not very safe, this is not something we recommend, but rather we mention it because it demonstrates another potential health benefit of baking soda. According to researchers, sodium bicarbonate - an alkaline substance that increases blood pH - reduces and offsets the acidity produced in the muscles during intense exercise (such as running and swimming).
Household cleaner
Baking soda gets rid of grease and dirt with little or no effort. You can use it mixed with essential oils instead of kitchen and bathroom surface cleaners, and you can add a little lemon juice to the mixture for an additional effect.
You can use this homemade household cleaner to clean dirty pots and pans
You can also use baking soda (alone) instead of a special carpet cleaner - sprinkle it on the carpet and then vacuum it after about 15 minutes.
Instead of purchasing silver polish that may be toxic, you can soak the silver in hot water and baking soda (and lemon juice if you wish) then rinse, dry, and polish clean.
Baking soda for feminine odor
Bacterial vaginosis
According to the Mayo Clinic, bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of vaginal odor. Every vagina usually contains naturally occurring bacteria, and the growth of these bacteria is what is known as bacterial vaginosis
Make feminine washing
Mix two and a half tablespoons of baking soda in a cup or bowl filled with hot water by hand
Use the mixture to wash the entire vaginal area, vulva, labia minora, and vaginal opening
After using a baking soda water solution to wash your vaginal area, switch to plain water to wash again and pat dry with a soft towel.
Repeat the process twice daily until the odor disappears completely 12
